I’ve always had a leaning towards the creative side of my brain and it was by accident about five years ago, when I attended a friend’s art workshop (wine, coffee and salsa music being the drawcard), that a discovery came about. That was the realisation that I really enjoyed painting .. oil on canvas being my medium of choice. Shortly after this discovery, I joined the Redcliffe Art Society and began a new journey. ˜Nestled in˜ was one of my first attempts at impressionist painting through the teachings of Todd Whisson. I haven’t looked back since. A whole new world opened up to me and I would recommend anyone with a semblance of artistic talent, to also embark on this journey.
Being a Gemini (the twins), with a split personality so they say, I have no preference for styles and paint according to my mood swings.
I’ve followed an administrative career all my life and have worked with a diverse range of individuals including three Naval Officers’ Commanding, Royal Australian Navy, politicians (including the Senate), the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (including the host broadcasting of the 1982 Commonwealth Games), an international superannuation consulting firm, the Queensland Leukaemia Foundation and others. Throughout my journey I have learnt not to be intimidated by people with high profiles. It follows therefore that I am also not intimidated by art. If I mess up, I scratch it off, turps it off, paint over it, or simply toss it. I’m quite happy to begin anew.
The discovery of how much I enjoyed art came too late to make a career out of it and so now I am a hobby artist who would love to paint all day and all night, but I don’t live in a perfect world. An extra bonus for me is that I have been very fortunate to have sold many of my artworks.
My hobbies include painting (goes without saying), photography, yachting, cycling, travel, writing, cooking, home decorating and anything that’s even slightly connected to creativity.
