In this workshop you’ll discover the best ways to utilise a tonal underpainting, combining tone and colour to create the mood for realistic but painterly artwork. Some pastel experience and preferably an understanding of colour theory is required.

Join Jane for either 1 or 2 days as you explore various pens and discover how to use them for hatching, cross hatching, stipple, with watercolours, with inks and with Chinese ink. Use lines to create ink drawings and paintings from life. Work from a collection of objects including drift wood, stones and pebbles, dried leaves and flowers, mushrooms and fungi etc.

David will demonstrate his technique and explain his unique process of working from dark to light. You will learn to be interpretive in your approach, painting step-by-step with David as he works individually with all participants and explains how you can get the most out of your source images.
