Michael McCarthy is a Brisbane-based still life painter who works primarily in acrylics on canvas. He begins each painting with a clearly defined composition of the intended inanimate object which includes light, shadow and how the subject matter relates to other objects in the painting.
Artists that inspire him are Manet, Degas, Renoir, Sargent, Olley and Turner. Their impressionist style has helped shape the type of artist he is today. He likes to study classical techniques and use their historical approach in his paintings.
