Maxine Thompson is recognised as a Master Pastelist by the Pastel Society of Australia and Pastel Artists New Zealand.  She has won numerous national and international awards for her outstanding work, particularly in portraiture.  Having studied various mediums with artists such as Reg Roberts in Noosa and Lyn Fraser-Roberts, Maxine decided to focus exclusively on working in pastels.

Ben Winspear is a multi-award winning artist who has been painting professionally for over 15 years.  Based in Melbourne, Ben works in both watercolour and oil on a wide range of subject matter.  His favourite subjects are the Australian landscape and portraits/figures and his work encompasses the full spectrum from fully representational to abstraction.  Ben is passionate about passing on his knowledge.  He seeks to ground students solidly in the traditions of observational drawing and painting with an informed use of quality materials.

In the workshop we shall explore a few tree types to assist in a genuine representation of a specific tree type in an artwork of the same.  The second day will be spent exploring some of the trees of our rain forests and the community of plants and fungi they host upon their trunks, branches and roots.
